Norway Keeps Tesla on Top as SpaceX’s Bitcoin Holdings Surpass $1 Billion
Tesla continues to hold a dominant position in Norway despite rising competition and controversies surrounding Elon Musk. Meanwhile, his other company, SpaceX, is celebrating a milestone – its Bitcoin holdings have crossed the $1 billion mark.
Tesla and Norway: A Relationship Weathering Political Storms The Norwegian market has been crucial for Tesla since the early days of its European expansion. Despite mixed reactions to Musk’s political engagement, the automaker recorded a 24% year-over-year increase in sales during the first half of 2025 – at a time when sales in other European countries, such as Germany, Sweden, and Denmark, fell by as much as half. However, competition is intensifying. Volkswagen briefly took the top spot in EV sales during the first quarter, and Chinese brands BYD, XPeng, and MG together held a 12.3% market share in June. Christina Bu from the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association summed up the sentiment: “In many ways, you could say Norway helped build Tesla. Everyone here knows someone who owns one.” According to a February survey by Norstat, 40% of Norwegian Tesla owners believe Musk’s political activism negatively impacts the brand. Nevertheless, more than half still plan to purchase another Tesla.
SpaceX and Bitcoin: Back Above the $1 Billion Mark While Tesla battles for market share, SpaceX is holding strong in the crypto space. According to Arkham Intelligence data, the company currently owns 8,285 BTC valued at approximately $1.02 billion. The firm entered Bitcoin in early 2021, with its portfolio peaking at $1.8 billion in April of that year. However, the market later corrected – in 2022, it sold roughly 70% of its holdings due to a series of market shocks, from the Terra-Luna collapse to the FTX exchange implosion. Tesla made a similar move during that period and now holds 11,509 BTC worth around $1.42 billion.
📊 Key Figures: 🔹 Tesla – 24% sales growth in Norway (1H 2025) & 11,509 BTC ($1.42B) 🔹 VW – temporary EV market leader in Q1 2025 🔹 Chinese brands – 12.3% Norwegian market share (June 2025) 🔹 SpaceX – 8,285 BTC ($1.02B)
