Bhutan bets on encryption payments to boost local tourism economy
Gate News bot reports that, according to CoinDesk, Bhutan is fully promoting the development of Crypto Assets - not only to modernize its financial system but also to attract high-value tourists from around the world and build a digitally resilient economy.
At the "Digital Bhutan" seminar, officials elaborated on a clear vision: to bring Crypto Assets from theory into everyday life.
"Tourists complained about the inability to use SWIFT or convenient payment. Crypto Assets payments have solved this problem," said a tourism representative, adding that tourists have already begun using Crypto Assets to purchase local goods—one even bought groceries to cook for themselves.
Bhutan's target remains modest, expecting to attract only 300,000 tourists each year. However, it hopes that tourists will stay longer and spend more, and crypto payments will undoubtedly become a powerful lever to achieve this goal.
Bhutan hopes to establish a community-driven, technologically skilled ecosystem that aligns with its values. DK Bank played a pioneering role in Bhutan's early Bitcoin mining activities and is now leading the adoption of Crypto Assets locally.
