Canada's overall inflation rate has fallen to an eight-month low.

Jin10 data reported on May 20 that driven by falling energy prices and the end of the federal consumer carbon tax, Canada's overall inflation rate in April fell to its lowest level in 8 months. Statistics Canada stated on Tuesday that the overall CPI in Canada rose by 1.7% compared to the same period last year. Economists at TD Securities indicated that the market had originally expected the index to drop from 2.3% last month to 1.6%. On a month-over-month basis, prices fell by 0.1%, while the market widely expected a decline of 0.2%.
